CYBERJAYA University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) Pharmacy students bagged the Social Impact Policy Award at the recent National Pharmacy Research Competition (NPRC) organised by the Malaysian Pharmacy Students’ Association (MyPSA).

CUCMS final year Bachelor of Pharmacy student Nur Asyiqin Masenwat was named winner of the Social Impact Policy Award and the first runner-up in the Education in Pharmacy and Health Sciences category. Her research focused on the increasing number of beginners in marathon events and running-related injuries.

“Pharmacy research is an important aspect in healthcare as continuous advancements in disease management can help improve disease outcomes and the quality of life in communities,” said CUCMS Faculty of Pharmacy deputy dean of Student Affairs, Shairyzah Ahmad Hisham, who also felt that early exposure to research among pharmacy students will equip them with the necessary skills to help and contribute to society in future.

Deenna Noris Liyana Kamaruddin, CUCMS final year pharmacy student, was first runner-up in the Industrial Pharmacy category. She felt that research is important for its findings but the experience helps students become independent and boosts employability after graduation.

In all, CUCMS Faculty of Pharmacy Hospital & Clinical Pharmacy Department lecturer, Nurdiana Jamil was pleased that final year research projects are a compulsory part of the undergraduate curriculum.

“It never ceases to lift my spirits to see the maturity, growth and insight obtained by our research students as they emerge the other side of the learning curve after successfully completing their research,” Nurdiana said.
