Altantuya case: Cops mull forming new panel for fresh leads

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The police will consider setting up a committee to oversee fresh investigations into the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu, said Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim.

Noor Rashid said the suggestion is still in the early stages. If the committee is formed, it would monitor the ongoing probe if necessary, he added.

“We must see the direction of the case because it has already been given a court verdict.

“We have to make a decisions based on new leads,” he told reporters after attending a police veterans event at Kuala Lumpur International Hotel yesterday.

Noor Rashid also said the old investigation team will be recalled and old papers will be examined to determine the grounds of the investigation.

He also said police are aware of the whereabouts of DSP Musa Safri who was the former aide-decamp to Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak when the latter was deputy PM from 2004 until 2009.

Altantuya’s father, Setev Shaariibuu in his latest police report on June 20, named Musa as a key witness but the latter was not called to testify at the trial of the two policemen accused of killing Altantuya. – by Ashwin Kumar
