Disposable plastic ban?

> Penang mulls prohibiting use of such straws and containers

- BY IMRAN HILMY

GEORGE TOWN: Penang may ban plastic straws and disposable containers to make the state cleaner, greener and healthier.

“This policy by the government is for Penang and Mother Earth,” Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said during the launch of the statelevel Plogclean programme at Karpal Singh Drive yesterday.

He said community involvement in this is important, and the programme is a good start for the community to be part of the state government’s effort.

Plogging, a combination of jogging and picking up rubbish, which originated in Sweden, was introduced in Penang during World Environment Day to initiate public activity over the concern of plastic pollution.

Penang Island City Council Mayor Yew Tung Seang said the matter is being deliberated by state exco Phee Boon Poh.
