KUALA LUMPUR: A police corporal, who allegedly opened fire with his service pistol at a karaoke lounge at the Brem Mall in Kepong, was arrested on Sunday.

The incident occurred after a fight broke out between his friends and four men at the lounge.

It is learnt that the 36-year-old corporal, who is attached to the Gombak district police headquarters, was at the lounge with five of his friends at about 6am.

About two hours later, four men approached them and started a fight with one of his friends.

The corporal tried to break up the fight but was pushed away by the attackers.

He then whipped out his pistol and fired five shots at the wall, sending the attackers scurrying for safety. One of them lodged a police report.

A police team from the Kuala Lumpur CID serious crimes division detained the corporal and seized his service pistol and 25 rounds of ammunition.

It is learnt that the policeman was remanded yesterday for further investigations.

In another incident, two men are believed to have fired several shots in front of a popular night club in Bukit Bintang on Sunday night.

City CID chief SAC Rusdi Mohd Isa said police recovered 25 spent bullet casings at a car park 30m from the club entrance.

No one was hurt in the 10.50pm incident.
