Sungai Kandis assemblyman dies
SHAH ALAM: Sungai Kandis assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei ( pix) died of lymphoma cancer at the Subang Jaya Medical Centre at 11.10am yesterday.
Political Secretary to Selangor Mentri Besar, Borhan Aman Shah, said preparations for the burial would be made at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, after arrangements have been completed at the hospital.
“His remains would be laid to rest at the Section 21 Muslim cemetery after Asar prayers,” he said in a statement.
In the recent polls, Shuhaimi, who was also former political secretary to former Selangor menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, won with a majority of 12,480 votes on a PKR ticket in a four-cornered contest against candidates from Barisan Nasional, PAS and PRM.
Shuhaimi, 50, was not present at the swearing-in ceremony at the first meeting of the first term of the 14th State Legislative Assembly Sitting on June 26 due to health reasons.
Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said in a statement that Mat Shuhaimi, who was Sri Muda (now Sungai Kandis) assemblyman for two terms, was highly committed, responsible and popular with the people and friends.
He said Mat Shuhaimi’s passing was a major loss to the Selangor government as well as PKR.
“His deeds and sacrifices to the people and state were considerable and invaluable,” he added. – Bernama
