Jamal being probed for illegal exit
SHAH ALAM: Police said they are investigating Red Shirts leader Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos under the Immigration Act after the Sungai Besar Umno chief fled the country when he was being investigated for several offences.
Selangor police chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor said the police had filed a report on the day when Jamal was deported here.
“We subsequently probed him for exiting the country through illegal channels. We are looking into Section 51 of the Immigration Act and this will be added to the other pending cases that he currently faces.”
Jamal, who was deported from Indonesia last week, will spend time behind bars after he was denied bail by the Ampang magistrate’s court after pleading not guilty to a charge of escaping police custody.
He fled from police custody in May prior to being granted bail. He initially claimed this was an honest mistake.
However, he later left the country after claiming there was a conspiracy against him.
