Football fever

> For better or worse, the beautiful game has us all enthralled once every four years

from the comfort and familiarity of their own homes, so that they can savour each move without much distraction.

Ron Yap, a friend who has been rooting for Germany because of a newfound sweetheart from Munich, told me that he would watch night matches at a drinking hole if he was in the mood, but would rather watch the early morning matches at home.

“It’s because if I want to tilt my head to sleep, I can do so easily at home. But I can’t do that if I’m watching from elsewhere,” explained the aviation public relations specialist.

As with every major football competition, there’ve been cruel decisions, unfortunate incidences, and happy outcomes. Certain scenes will be etched in our minds for a long time.

For me, I’m just elated to again enjoy the greatest football show on earth, incident-free.
