PETALING JAYA: An array of local and international artistes and celebrities will take to the badminton courts at Stadium Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow for a good cause.

Among the celebrities are Linda Onn, Serina Datuk Redzuan, Shah Slam, David Kong, Jeffery Ooi, Andy Loke, Jack Ju, Honey Tim and Hou Le Ming.

Olympics silver medalist Goh Liu Ying and Malaysia badminton legend Foo Kok Keong will also make a special appearance at the event.

They are looking forward to a smashing time at the event organised by Forever Grand Asia Celebrity Charity Badminton (GACC) Sdn Bhd to raise funds for children with cerebral palsy. GACC is raising funds for the Spastic Children’s Association of Selangor and Federal Territory building development projects. Event co-organiser Yayasan Artis 1Malaysia (YA1M) president Datuk Irwan Shah Abdullah, also known as DJ Dave, said this is a very meaningful event as the participating artistes and celebrities get to promote physical health through friendly badminton matches. GACC founder Poris Lee said this fundraising tournament and gala night will help with the construction of a building for the spastic children’s association.

“Over the years, our successful track record in organising various charitable events had raised funds for the underprivileged groups in our society,” she said.

Spastic children have specific needs and there are only three rehabilitation centres nationwide which provides life-long education, living skills and vocational training, sports training, occupational therapy and employment in our sheltered workshops.

The charity badminton matches will be followed by a gala dinner at Berjaya Times Square Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Among the performers at the dinner are DJ Dave, Evon Low, Eddy Chin, Datuk Nash and Kanagarajan.

Ex-prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is GACC’s patron.
