French fashion designer snubs plastic clogs

-

MANY in the fashion world turn their nose up at the colourful plastic clog, such as Crocs or those worn by people who work in wet environments. French designer Ines de la Fressange is no exception.

“No one looks better while wearing them,” she tells the German newspaper FAZ, adding: “No one in Paris used to wear such shoes.”

Now, not only are they fashionable, they are even being sold at high prices. “Suddenly I felt old, old, old. I couldn’t handle that,” recalls the 60-year-old former model about the highpriced clogs.

In the 1980s, de la Fressange signed an exclusive contract as a top model with iconic French fashion house Chanel. Today, she runs her own label. De la Fressange adds that she has about 100 pairs of shoes in her closet, but only wears about six of them most of the time: “A few classic, black lace-up shoes, short black boots and my beloved Converse, which I’ve been buying ever since my youth.” – dpa
