> Celebritie­s come together in badminton charity event to raise funds for kids with cerebral palsy

KUALA LUMPUR: A host of celebritie­s came together over the weekend at The Forever Grand Asia Celebrity Charity Badminton (GACC) Sdn Bhd friendly tournament to raise funds for children with cerebral palsy.

The event at Stadium Titiwangsa was held to raise funds for the Spastic Children’s Associatio­n of Selangor and Federal Territory (SCAS & FT) building developmen­t projects.

Event co-organiser Yayasan Kebajikan Artis Tanahair (YKAT) president Datuk Irwan Shah Abdullah, better known as DJ Dave, said he was encouraged by the turnout at the tournament.

“I am glad some celebritie­s were enthusiast­ic to come and play for charity, this is a good sign,” he said.

He added that he has always been passionate about supporting charity events and has organised many in the past.

“I agreed to host this in the name of charity and I hope we can keep this momentum going to organise more in future,” he said.

About 40 celebritie­s and members of the public took part in the event from 9am to 5pm.

Malaysia badminton legend Foo Kok Keong was also there to officiate.

The tournament consisted of two categories, the men’s doubles and women’s doubles.

Shakilla Khoriri and Faye Kusairi bagged the gold for the women’s event.

The men’s doubles pair of Zulfari Abdullah and Nornikman Hussin took home the gold.

Also competing were other celebritie­s such as Fizz Fairuz, Andy Lok, Riot Kool, Linda Onn and Carrie Lee. Last night, the celebritie­s gathered at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel here for the Grand Asian Celebrity Charity (GACC) Gala Night 2018 held to raise more funds for special children. Speaking at the dinner, GACC adviser Yam Kee Man said: “Every child deserves our love, but special children – those with cerebral palsy – deserve more”. “The gift of love and charity through sports (badminton) is a sincere and healthy way to support and raise funds for children in need. Among those present were SCAS & FT president Datuk Seri Lam Peng Chong, DJ Dave, Foo, filmmaker Datuk Yusof Haslam and singer-songwriter Datuk Mohamad Nasir Mohamad, also known as M. Nasir. Others include Linda, Serina Redzuan, Shah Slam, David Kong, Jeffery Ooi, Faye Kusairi, Ani Mayuni and Hou Le Ming. DJ Dave and Ani Mayuni also performed at the gala night alongside several other local artistes. theSun is one of the official media partners for the charity event.
