Red Seal of approval

BRUSHING our teeth is such an instinctive part of life that not much thought is required of it.

However, in recent years, increased awareness over the dangers of fluoride and other forms of synthetic chemicals such as artificial colouring and flavours, triclosan, parabens and microbeads in some toothpaste, has many health-conscious individuals seeking safer alternatives.

With the recent launch of Red Seal toothpaste, a safer option is finally available.

Unlike conventional toothpaste, this is made from natural herbal extracts and essential oils like eucalyptus, aniseed and peppermint; is on the higher side of the alkaline pH scale at >8; and creates an environment that wards off bacteria.

The toothpaste also has a calcium carbonate base, which naturally rebuilds or remineralises teeth.

A unique natural ingredient in the toothpaste is totarol oil, which is extracted from the wood of New Zealand’s Totara tree.

The natural extract is known for its anti-bacteria properties.

At the launch, Red Seal naturopath Michelle Irving said that although we normally spit out toothpaste after brushing our teeth, “the mucosal lining inside the mouth has about a 90% absorption efficiency, hence we are exposing our health to many toxic chemicals in the toothpaste without knowing it.

It’s especially worrying when it comes to kids, who tend to swallow toothpaste.”

The New Zealand brand is popular for its natural products that support health and well-being. Five varieties of natural toothpaste are available, suitable for all healthconscious individuals, across all age groups, children included.

Red Seal natural toothpaste is available exclusively at Caring pharmacies nationwide.
