SON TUESDAY EQUENCE, an annual event by First City University College (First City UC), is an event that showcases authentic and inspired works of final-year students from the Faculty of Design and Built Environment.

The event was made open to the public and ran from July 4 to 8. The works reflected students’ diverse abilities, skills and creativity across varied professional fields of art and design.

Held for the 15th time – this year’s proved the largest, comprising works of 140 students soon to complete their BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design, and BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design programmes, courses crafted in collaboration with Nottingham Trent University in UK, which boasts over 150 years of experience in design education.

Held at the Oval Concourse within the 1 Utama Shopping Centre, the launch saw distinguished guests of honour comprising First City Corporation Sdn Bhd director and First City UC governor Tan Sri Teo Chiang Liang, Malaysia Design Council director assoc prof Dr Mohamad Hariri Abdullah, and Nottingham Trent University representatives Dr Steve Clark, Jonathan Hamilton and Vince Conway, as well as First City UC top management, industry leaders and partners, event sponsors and fellow students in attendance.

“The objective of this event is to showcase how well prepared our graduates are, and how employable they will be. Some of the graduating students have already been offered jobs even before their final year results are announced. This is indeed a feather in the cap for our graduating students and for us as a provider of industry relevant degree education and training.

“This is also testimony to the quality of our lecturers and the state-of-the-art equipment and learning facilities that are available for our students,” Teo said in his opening address.

Sequence 2018 also saw the unveiling of a new programme, BA (Hons) in Fashion Marketing. The three-year degree programme will be launched in September and commences in January 2019. A fashion show was part of the agenda of the event. It showcased brands like Aria the Label to the theme Summer; KoZo following the Androgynous style; and Kittie Yiyi in a Retro theme.

Besides creative projects, the event incorporated interactive booths. These included The Creative Stove, where design students’ handmade products and artworks were put on sale; a handicraft area by the Faculty of Design and Built Environment students; a cooking demonstration booth by the Faculty of Business Hospitality & Communication Studies students; and an innovative showcase of gaming, animation and robotics projects presented by the Faculty of Engineering and Computing students.
