Malays not neglected, says by-election candidate
SHAH ALAM: Pakatan Harapan has not failed to safeguard the interests and welfare of the Malay community, said PKR Sungai Kandis byelection candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.
He pointed out that various programmes and initiatives had been implemented in the past 10 years for the Malay community in Selangor.
“This included the Inisiatif Peduli Rakyat, where a total of 43 programmes were implemented and the majority of its beneficiaries were Malays.
“The state government, through PKNS, also built 136 units of single-storey semidetached houses at Felda Sungai Tengi for second-generation settlers,” he said at the PKR Sungai Kandis operations centre yesterday.
“Umno or Barisan Nasional cannot just claim they are the defenders of Malay rights, especially in Selangor. In GE12, Umno were able to secure only 18 out of the total 56 state seats contested. The situation continued in the following general election as the party Polling: Aug 4 only managed 12 seats.
“GE14 was the nail in the coffin for them as they only managed a mere four state seats in the whole of Selangor. All this clearly shows that the voters, particularly the Malay community, have rejected them.”
On questions over a durian festival, he said it was not organised by PKR or his campaign machinery.
“The event was organised by some individuals and is not even held within the Sungai Kandis constituency, it is to be held in the Kota Kemuning constituency.”
He said the organisers used his pictures on publicity material for the event without his permission. – by Adrian Phung
