SAMSUNG kick-started its annual Employee Volunteer Programme called Global Startup Acceleration Programme for the year 2018. The programme is an international initiative that is carried out across India, Indonesia, Nepal, South Africa and Malaysia.

The programme here was a collaborative effort between the electronics giant and the Youth and Sports Ministry, the International Youth Centre (IYC) Kuala Lumpur, StartupMalaysia and the Malaysian Youth Council.

Thirty-five volunteer experts and engineers from Samsung HQ were involved in the mentor-mentee programme, which was run in business boot camp style at the IYC.

Participants were given the opportunity to learn and experience various aspects of programme, which involves business including marketing, engineering, design, business strategy, problem-solving and more.

According to Samsung Malaysia Electronics president Yoonsoo Kim, the idea behind the event was Samsung’s belief in chasing after one’s dreams and making it a reality.

Hence, the five-day programme which helped budding entrepreneurs realise their ambitions and gave participants opportunities to envision, share and develop their startup ideas, explore their needs, examine business models and discuss industry challenges.

Towards the end of the programme, each startup team had the opportunity to pitch their ideas to a panel, where three were selected and will receive extended support from StartupMalaysia for six months.

Said Go Coach CEO and founder Rashid Jamiran: “Winning this acceleration programme is something we never expected, so you can imagine our thrill when we heard our names being called out. We appreciate this opportunity presented by Samsung and its partners as our vision for our company is now clearer and we are excited to scale our business.”
