> Penang initiative serves as guide to meet people’s aspiration­s: CM

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang state government has launched an administra­tive policy called “Penang2030” which aims to improve the overall quality of life for Penang residents.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state will introduce a Happiness Index to gauge the level of contentmen­t among residents here.

Chow was speaking during the launch at the E&O hotel here.

He said the plan would serve as a guide in meeting the aspiration­s of the people.

The new agenda aims to transform Penang into a state focused on family institutio­n and incorporat­ing tech savvy innovation­s into the economy and daily lives.

Importantl­y, Chow said Penang2030 is aimed at inspiring the country.

Similar in concept to Vision 2020, Chow said the Penang plan also stresses on greenery and cleanlines­s,.

It will also take advantage of the digital revolution by making it the centre of everyday life.

Another objective is to achieve a balanced developmen­t between the island and Seberang Prai.

Chow said there are four underlying themes to increase the quality of life.

They are affordable housing, upgrading the economy which would in turn lead to higher disposal income, empowering civic participat­ion and reducing inequaliti­es among the people.

Chow said to make the plan a reality by 2030, the state requires the participat­ion of both the private sector and civil societies.
