CEO’s murder: Cops deny stepsons arrested
SHAH ALAM: Police have denied making any new arrests involving two teenagers in connection with the murder of Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Nazrin Hassan ( pix).
Selangor police chief Commissioner Datuk Mazlan Mansor said there was no truth to the news that the two stepsons of the victim were detained.
Speaking to reporters yesterday at the Selangor police headquarters, Mazlan declined to comment on the motive, adding that the case is still under investigation and would jeopardise the probe.
Mazlan said investigators have arrested two people on Tuesday in connection with the murder investigation – the victim’s female relative and her 43-year-old ex-husband.
News reports said the two teenagers are Nazrin’s stepsons and they were arrested at their grandfather’s house at about 9.30pm on Wednesday night.
Nazrin, 45, was initially reported to have died of smoke inhalation from a fire that broke out in a room at his double-storey terrace house in Mutiara Damansara on June 14, the eve of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
At the time it was believed the fire that occurred past noon was caused by an explosion from the victim’s mobile phone that was being charged.
It was reported that Nazrin had suffered 30% burns and other injuries . The case was classified as sudden death.
Fire and Rescue Department investigators who carried out tests on samples gathered at the fire scene, found traces of petrol, opening up suspicions of foul play.
