Cat killed, woman robbed at laundrettes

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Two men who killed a cat by putting it in a running clothes dryer at a laundrette in Taman Gombak Ria on Tuesday are being sought by police.

In a video footage captured by the laundrette’s closed-circuit camera (CCTV) one of the two men was seen picking up the cat from the ground and placing it in the dryer before closing the door.

Moments later he dropped a coin into the machine and started it up before leaving the place with the other man.

The cat, which turned out to be pregnant, was later found dead in the dryer.

It is believed that the men had earlier gone to the laundrette to use the facilities.

The footage went viral on social media yesterday, prompting calls by angry netizens for police action.

Gombak police chief ACP Samsor Maarof said yesterday that the identities of the men were being ascertained.

“We are unable to say if they are locals or foreigners but we are gathering clues. We urge those with information on them to contact the police,” he said when contacted.

He said the case is being investigated for maiming or killing an animal under Section 428 of the Penal Code and can be fined and imprisoned for up to three years.

In a separate incident at another laundrette in Sungai Petani, Kedah, a woman lost her handbag, cellphone and necklace to two robbers while waiting for her clothes to be washed.

A footage of the incident that also made its rounds on social media showed one of the robbers striking up a conversation with the woman before whipping out a machete and snatched her valuables.
