MAHB’s airport traffic in August grows 2.9% year on year
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd’s (MAHB) network of airports including Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport recorded 11.8 million passengers in August 2018, a 2.9% growth over August 2017.
The peak traffic in August was partly due to the summer holidays in Turkey and the Hajj travel season, MAHB said.
In addition, MAHB said international passengers registered a 3.2% growth with 5.6 million passengers in August 2018, while domestic passengers grew by 2.7% registering 6.1 million passengers.
On a twelve-month basis, MAHB said the total network of airports registered 5% growth with 132 million passengers, which was the highest traffic handled by the network of airports.
Overall aircraft movements increased by 1.1%, where international aircraft movements registered an increase of 3.3% while domestic decreased by 0.4% over August 2017.
On the local front, MAHB said airports in Malaysia registered 8.5 million passengers in August 2018, a 0.9% year-on-year growth over August 2017.
Meanwhile, it said the international sector recorded 4.4 million passengers with a 1% increase while domestic sector recorded 4 million passengers, with a growth of 0.8%.
However, MAHB said Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) passenger movements recorded a 0.2% decrease over August 2017 with 5.1 million passenger movements. Overall aircraft movements at KLIA increased by 0.4% over August 2017, with domestic aircraft movements increased by 4.4%. International aircraft movements at KLIA however registered a decline of 1.3%.
