foreign authorities such as Switzerland, Singapore, the United States and others. So it must go through the attorney-general (AG). Some of them have talked to us and our AG on the cases.”

So far, 64 persons have had their statements recorded as part of the ongoing investigation, he said.

On attempts by Umno to claim part of the seized cash and assets, Noor Rashid (pix) said the law allows police up to a year to investigate the millions in cash and jewellery seized from the private city residences of Najib in June.

Umno had said that up to RM116.7 million in cash belonged to the party and it was customary for their party president to retain sole possession of such amounts.

The party said the cash was unrelated to the probe on 1MDB or SRC International where money laundering charges were later levelled against Najib.

Noor Rashid said the police require time to go through the case materials, especially the 12,000 pieces of jewellery.

“Every single piece has a serial number and specialists need to be called in to verify this. We are being transparent and careful here,” he said.

Police had revealed that about RM1.1 billion in cash and jewellery were seized during the raid at the private residences in Kuala Lumpur after the 14th general election.

Noor Rashid said police may also call in Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, for questioning over the seized jewellery.

“We will call her up to identify and confirm the items when she is available. The process involves identifying the items, the manufacturers,” he added.

Najib so far faces 32 charges related to the 1MDB scandal and the RM2.6 billion donation deposited into his personal bank account.

He was slapped with four counts of corruption under the MACC Act and another 21 charges for alleged money laundering last Thursday.
