Hadi takes Anwar to task for PD choice
PORT DICKSON: PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang has taken a jab at Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday by questioning why he is not contesting in a Malay-majority seat.
“Anwar chose a seat where the majority of the voters are non-Muslims ... why not contest in an area with Muslim-majority,” he said at a ceramah at Teluk Kemang here which was attended by PAS candidate, Lt Col (R) Mohd Nazari Mokhtar.
Anwar, who is PKR president-elect, is contesting in the Port Dickson by-election on Oct 13 in a seven-cornered fight.
The Port Dickson parliamentary seat has 75,212 registered voters, comprising Malays (43%), Chinese (33%) and Indians (22%).
Hadi also said Anwar is inconsistent because he will behave differently with different communities.
“For instance, when Anwar visits a mosque, he can be seen as a more religious guy, whereas when he is with the Indian community, he dances an Indian dance,” Hadi said.
Meanwhile, Anwar said Islam does not stop Muslims from visiting any religious places of worship.
“I did not attend to pray or invite people to pray in the temple. I only attended an event on temple grounds. Islam also does not forbid anyone from interacting with a person of a different faith,” Anwar told a media conference.
