Lokman’s brother held in sedition probe

- BY CHARLES RAMENDRAN

SHAH ALAM: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Lokman Adam’s younger brother was arrested by police under the Sedition Act yesterday for allegedly sharing an insulting photo of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad on social media.

Lokman told the media yesterday that his brother, Azman Noor Adam, was arrested by a police team at his house in Bukit Subang here at 3am and taken to the Shah Alam district police headquarters where he was remanded for four days to facilitate investigations into the case.

While agreeing that his brother should not have shared the photo on Facebook, which showed a an unknown person pointing his buttocks at a TV screen that had Mahathir’s image on it, he expressed disgust at and accused the new government of practising double standards.

Lokman said members of the new government had condemned the Sedition Act in the past but appear to have embraced it now that they are in power.

He said he had lodged two police reports in the past weeks against two Pakatan Harapan personalities, namely Datuk A. Kadir Jasin and activist Hishamuddin Rais, for allegedly making insulting statements against the Yang diPertuan Agong but no action has been taken against them to date.

“If these ‘double standards’ are what they call reform of the law and judiciary, we can say goodbye to the rule of law.

“The law of the jungle practised by the Pakatan Harapan government is glaring,” he said.

Police are yet to comment on Azman’s arrest.
