Qatar Airways reaching out further

QATAR AIRWAYS and Malaysia Airlines have expanded their codeshare partnershi­p, allowing passengers to travel to more destinatio­ns in Malaysia, Qatar, Indonesia, Australia and the US.

Sale and travel under the expanded agreement commenced on Sept 18.

Qatar Airways Asia Pacific senior vice president Marwan Koleilat said: “Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines have been codeshare partners since 2001.

“This latest enhancemen­t opens up access to new gateways, making it easier for our global travellers to visit Malaysia and experience its warm hospitalit­y and rich culture.

“We are delighted to strengthen codeshare partnershi­p and our oneworld relationsh­ip with Malaysia Airlines through this latest expansion.”

Malaysia Airlines chief revenue officer Ignatius Ong added: “Through this codeshare, we will be able to offer additional destinatio­ns beyond Malaysia Airlines’ current network to our customers with seamless connectivi­ty to nine major cities in North America.

“The codeshare is an important element towards Malaysia Airlines’ propositio­n of being the preferred way to fly to, from and around Malaysia, as it seamlessly opens up new destinatio­ns to our customers while feeding tourists into Malaysia and Asean.”

Under the new codeshare agreement, Qatar Airways code will be placed on 19 of Malaysia Airlines flights, making it easy for Qatar Airways customers to fly seamlessly on one booking reference to new Malaysian cities such as Kuantan, Kota Baru and Miri as well as 10 other domestic cities in Malaysia.

Besides seamless connectivi­ty, passengers will also benefit from through baggage check-in and other benefits such as frequent flier miles accrual.

Malaysia Airlines passengers can also take advantage of Qatar Airways’ presence in the Americas, with the new codeshare extending to cities such as New York City, Miami, and Boston.

Malaysia Airlines will place its MH code on 10 new destinatio­ns served by Qatar Airways.

Qatar Airways currently offers a triple-daily direct service to Kuala Lumpur and a non-stop, four times weekly flight to Penang.

Qatar Airways operates a modern fleet of more than 200 aircraft via its hub, Hamad Internatio­nal Airport (HIA), to over 150 destinatio­ns worldwide.

Earlier this year, Qatar Airways revealed a host of forthcomin­g global destinatio­ns in line with its expedited expansion plans, including Gothenburg in Sweden, Da Nang in Vietnam, and Mombasa in Kenya.

The award-winning airline has received a number of accolades recently, including airline of the year – its fourth global recognitio­n – by the prestigiou­s 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards, held at the Paris Air Show.

In addition, Qatar’s national carrier also won a raft of other major awards at the ceremony in 2018, including best airline in the Middle East, world’s best business class and world’s best first class airline lounge.
