It’s not about revenge: Tun M

> PM says no one above the law and legal process will take its course

PETALING JAYA: The arrest of Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor has nothing to do with revenge, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said yesterday.

It was carried out in accordance with the law, he said in response to claims by Rosmah’s daughter, Nooryana Najib, that the government was “going too far” in arresting her mother.

“No one is above the law,” Mahathir said after opening the 6th Asean Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management yesterday.

“If it is against the law, then the legal process will be carried out, that is our promise. There is no (vengeance) or anything like that.

“The law says if you steal money, you will be charged in court. Whether the court agrees or not, that is a different matter.”

Rosmah has claimed trial to 17 charges involving money laundering and failure to declare income to the Inland Revenue Board, said to be from 1 Malaysia Development Berhad.

On the deaths of six firefighters during a search mission on Wednesday, Mahathir said it was not something that is easy to accept.

“As the prime minister, I can only urge the families of those men to stay strong during this very challenging period.”

Mahathir said the government would look into providing assistance to the families of the men who lost their lives while carrying out their duties.

The six drowned during a search operation to find a teenager who fell into a pond in Taman Putra Perdana, Puchong.
