PD polls candidates pay their last respects

PORT DICKSON: Campaignin­g for the Port Dickson by-election slowed down yesterday as five of the seven candidates visited the family of the late fireman Adnan Othman who died in a search and rescue mission on Wednesday night.

Adnan, 33, was one of the six firemen who drowned while attempting to rescue a teenager at a disused mining pool in Taman Putra Perdana in Selangor.

First to arrive to pay their condolence­s were independen­t candidates Tan Sri Isa Samad and Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan who visited the family at Taman Wawasan Jaya here.

They were followed by independen­t candidate Kan Chee Yuen.

A funeral prayer was held for Adnan with about 200 people, mostly family members and locals, paying their last respects at the Qariah Lukut Mukim Port Dickson mosque.

Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) candidate Mohd Nazari Mokhtar attended the prayers and stayed throughout the burial service.

Pakatan Harapan’s candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was at the Muslim cemetery in Lukut after the burial to console Adnan’s family.

Also present to pay his last respects was Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Aminuddin Harun.

Aminuddin said the state government would provide the necessary assistance for Adnan’s family.
