I sensed something wrong after call, says wife

-

PORT DICKSON: The late Adnan Othman’s wife sensed something amiss when she was alerted by her husband’s colleague that he was involved in a rescue operation on Wednesday.

Adnan, 33, was one of the six firemen who drowned while attempting to rescue a teenager at a disused mining pool in Taman Putra Perdana in Puchong. He had celebrated his 33rd birthday with family members on Sept 29.

“I was alerted by his colleague last night (Wednesday) that Adnan was involved in a searchand-Rescue operation at Cyberjaya,” Adnan’s wife Shamiza Salleh said when met at the Masjid Qariah Lukut Mukim Port Dickson where the prayers for Adnan took place yesterday.

“I felt something was not right because he was supposed have ended his shift by 8pm. Then everything came to an end after I saw the devastating news on Facebook later in the night.”

Shamiza added she would accept what happened as her fate and move on.

Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said he had trained Adnan while he was based at the Fire and Rescue Academy in Wakaf Tapai in Terengganu in 2007.

“He was a dedicated individual who was always ready to be part of every rescue mission that I knew.

“Adnan never breached discipline and always gave his best in training,” he said, adding that he trained Adnan for six months.

Adnan leaves behind his wife and two daughters, Nur Aisyah Damia Adnan, four, and Aliyah Maisarah, two.
