An evolution in dance
FOLLOWING the success of its Dance. In Legacy in 2016, local non-profit dance organisation Han Fong Dance Ensemble returns with Dance. An Evolution, at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (klpac).
Under the guidance of artistic director Justin Wong, six established and emerging choreographers will present their works in traditional and contemporary dances tonight at 8pm, tomorrow (3pm and 8pm) and Sunday (3pm).
The six choreographers are Chloe Kok, Jensen Goi, Megan Lim, Chan Kar Kah, Anjoey Chong and Serene Yap.
Kok was the recipient of the best performer award at the 2010 Bauhinia Cup International Dance Championships in Hong Kong, while Goi clinched the best choreographer award at the 8th Singapore International Dance Festival this year as well as the top prize at the 2018 Korea Art & Culture International Exchange Association.
The performance will see an ensemble of 40 dancers, with artistic director Wong making a rare stage appearance with a solo performance after a 28-year absence.
Wong said the ensemble’s fifth dance production takes on the theme of transformation and rebirth, with “the showcase encompassing traditional, ethnic, classical as well as contemporary dance pieces”.
Through this biannual dance production, the ensemble aims to raise funds for its continuous quest in promoting arts and culture.
