Anwar will not be questioned during campaign period, say police
PORT DICKSON
PORT DICKSON: Police will not call up Port Dickson parliamentary candidate Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for questioning during the by-election campaign period over a report lodged by an independent candidate on alleged election bribery.
District police chief Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed ( pix) said this was not to get in the way of those campaigning for the byelection which has entered its 12th day.
He added that any decision to question Anwar, who is Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate, would be made later.
“So far, the matter is still under investigation,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
Independent candidate Chan had accused the PKR president-elect of “clearly violating the law” when the latter announced he would kickstart a free tuition programme and five tourism projects, among others.
Anwar has, on several occasions, defended his actions.
Meanwhile, Anwar said he did not see anything wrong in former Wanita Umno chief Tan Sri Rafidah Aziz criticising the PH leadership.
Bernama reported that the PKR president-elect said he respected her opinion.
“She (Rafidah) is a person who gives good advice.
“She has the experience to review these kinds of things, so it is not wrong for her to comment,” he said to reporters during a walkabout at a sale at Pernama, Port Dickson Camp, here.
Rafidah had on Tuesday warned the PH government that it could lose its power if it puts off making important decisions due to it being shackled by its election manifesto promises.
