Sunshine to the special needs

-

FOR the past 10 years, the Individual Mentally Challenged Training Centre for Individuals with Special Needs (IMC) has been operated by Raaginee Shalesh with the aim of helping special needs children in Subang Jaya.

Affectionately known as “Teacher Raaginee”, she now runs three training centres in the Klang Valley.

Bringing extra joy to the children in the centre, 7-Eleven Malaysia and NGOHub Asia organised a Malaysia Day-themed colouring and talent contest for the children to participate and win prizes.

“We are delighted to have fulfilled our part in this community project for the special needs children at IMC. We hope by extending our support to this cause, we can gain more awareness in the public eye and encourage the public to do more in helping the community,” said 7-Eleven Malaysia marketing general manager Ronan Lee.

The volunteers and children enjoyed tea time together with generous portions of food and drinks. 7-Eleven Malaysia also handed out provisions such as rice, cooking oil and eggs along with goodie bags containing cookies, stationery and plush toys.

Around 70 children with intellectual and development disabilities are currently being cared for by the training centre. IMC provides a platform for them to socialise and communicate with each other while improving their motor-skills through games such as “Bocce”, football and such.

“We also held outdoor activities by bringing them to the nearby park and having football competitions. It would aid us significantly if we were provided with a vehicle that could accommodate more children and ease our travelling.

“With the public’s support, we hope to expand this centre, for a bigger space where we can provide more life skills training programmes, jobs and hostel room for more children to stay,” said a hopeful Raaginee.
