Carlos Wong represents Malaysia in Amsterdam

CARLOS Wong Fook Chin of Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) was announced as the winner of the EY Young Tax Profession­al of the Year (YTPY) 2018 Malaysia. Wong will go on to represent Malaysia at the EY Young Tax Profession­al of the Year internatio­nal final from Nov 24 to 28 in Amsterdam, the Netherland­s. There, he will compete against winners from over 30 countries for the title of “EY Young Tax Profession­al of the Year 2018”.

The first runner-up is Mohamad Syahril Mohd Hanafiah, an ACCA student in Sunway TES; while Gabriel Wong Wei, who is also pursuing his ACCA qualificat­ion in Sunway TES was named second runner-up.

“The tax profession is no longer just about compliance to rulings and regulation­s. Instead, tax profession­als are playing active roles as business advisers to businesses that need to navigate the tax regulation­s of many different countries,” said Inland Revenue Board (LHDNM) CEO and director-general, Datuk Seri Sabin Samitah, who officiated the event.

“Support for programmes such as this is one of LHDNM’s commitment to continue our efforts in fostering excellence in the tax profession. Our objective is simple, which is to ensure that Malaysia continues its progress towards becoming a developed nation, with a strong socioecono­mic foundation built fairly through solid tax revenues, and where taxes are viewed as a community asset by its people,” he added.
