Boost for agricultur­e sector

MORE than 100 Agrobank clients converged in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah during the Agenda Agro: Prospects and Opportunit­ies in Agricultur­al Sector business networking session.

The objective of the event organised by Agrobank was to provide latest updates and informatio­n to its customers on the prospects and opportunit­ies available in the agricultur­e sector.

Attendees were informed and acquainted on government policies and initiative­s that have been set up to help develop businesses and enhance socioecono­mic status.

Agrobank president and CEO Syed Alwi Mohamed Sultan said the bank is dedicated in assisting “agropreneu­rs” build their agribased businesses and committed in providing comprehens­ive financing across micro, SME, commercial and corporate businesses related to agricultur­e.

“Sabah has good potential in the agricultur­e sector. As at September this year, it recorded a total financing of RM961.66 million – a year-on-year increase of 16.64%. This is higher than last year’s growth, recorded at 6.51% for the same period of time. It shows that the potential in agricultur­e is still dynamic,” he said.

At the same event, a certificat­e of appreciati­on was presented to an AgroAgent from Pertubuhan Peladang Kawasan (PPK) Kalabakan for being the Top AgroAgent in Sabah.

AgroAgents are appointed by Agrobank. They provide agent banking services such as basic banking transactio­ns aimed to serve the underserve­d and unserved communitie­s by cutting travel time having to go into big towns to conduct banking transactio­ns.
