THE LATEST eye-popping smartphone from Samsung was unveiled at a global event last week, teased as ‘A Galaxy Event’ by the Korean electronics giant, which was also broadcast to a similar event in Italy, and livestreamed on the internet.

Hundreds of journalists from all over Asia came to have a first look at the Samsung Galaxy A9 – the world’s first smartphone with four rear cameras.

“Building on our legacy in smartphone camera development, we’re introducing nextgeneration technology across our entire Galaxy portfolio to give more consumers the opportunity to experience cutting-edge innovation,” said Samsung Electronics president and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division D.J. Koh, at the unveiling event in Kuala Lumpur.

“We’re excited to deliver on this promise, and debut the world’s leading smartphone camera technology with the Galaxy A9.”

This smartphone comes with the world’s first rear quad camera, with each of the four lenses serving a different purpose.

For everyday use, there is the 24MP primary lens. It is designed to capture clear and bright images in both bright and low-light conditions.

This is the lens that is expected to see the most use, especially with its bright f1.7 aperture.

To get a closer shot, there is also a 10MP sensor with a 2X optical zoom lens which is perfect for close-ups. At f2.4, this camera is better suited for bright conditions.

To get a full shot, there is the 8MP sensor with a 120° view, and an aperture of f2.4.

This one is designed to capture everything the user sees without the need to take a step back.

Last, but not least, is the 5MP sensor with an f2.2 depth lens. This gives users the freedom to manually manage the photos’ depth-of-field, and focus on the subject for that eye-catching look. For the selfie fiends, the A9 also offers a 24MP front-facing camera with an f2.0 lens. All this means that the Samsung Galaxy A9 can give you more optical photoshooting options than any other smartphone in the market. But that’s not all. Inside the A9 is a 3,800mAh battery that users can rely on to keep them connected and taking photos for hours on end. To store all those photos, the Galaxy A9 comes with 128GB storage that can be expanded with up to 512GB of additional memory. Its processor is an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset with 6GB of memory. In practical terms, this is a capable phone that can handle everyday tasks with ease. It is also running Android 8.0 Oreo. The display on the Galaxy A9 does not disappoint either. It is a gorgeous 6.3in Full HD+ Super Amoled screen, which is capable of 1080x2220 resolution. Additionally, the Galaxy A9 features Bixby, Samsung Pay (NFC only), and Samsung Health. Users can also take advantage of the multitasking features of the Galaxy A9 such as the App Pair. The Galaxy A9 is styled in three unique colours: caviar black, lemonade blue, and bubblegum pink. While the always stylish caviar black is a solid and glossy device, lemonade blue and bubblegum pink feature a special eyecatching colour gradient. With a sleek and ergonomic design that fits in one hand, and a 3D glass curved back, the A9 feels as good in the hand as it looks. No information on pricing was announced. However, the Galaxy A9 is expected to be available by November this year.
