Duo survive hail of bullets in road shooting

> Gunmen drive alongside victims’ car and fires repeatedly in broad daylight

SHAH ALAM: A gym owner and an Indonesian technician survived a murder attempt despite being shot multiple times by a gunmen at close range along Jalan Kota Kemuning here yesterday.

In the 10.15am incident, the gym owner, 45, and his worker, 43, were on their way to a shop nearby to purchase lights for the gym.

A group in a four-wheel drive vehicle suddenly drove up alongside the victims’ car and fired repeatedly at the duo, causing their car to careen into a shallow ditch beside the road.

Shah Alam district police chief ACP Baharudin Mat Taib said investigat­ors recovered seven bullet casings at the scene.

“Initially, we were alerted about a possible accident case. However, upon reaching the scene, we realised that it was an attempted murder incident.

“We are still investigat­ing the motive behind the incident.”

Police are trying to obtain closedcirc­uit television camera recordings from buildings in the area and urge witnesses to come forward.

The victims were reportedly in stable condition and being treated at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang.

It was learnt that the gym owner, who was to celebrate his birthday yesterday, was injured in the right cheek while the technician suffered injuries to his abdomen.

The case is being investigat­ed under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
