-

SEPANG: The main suspect in a hit-and-run case that happened in Shaftsbury Square, Cyberjaya, that caused the death of a woman last week will be investigated for murder.

The suspect, a 24-year-old Libyan, was remanded for five days yesterday at the Sepang magistrate’s court for a fresh probe for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Sepang police said the probe was initiated after investigators received orders from the Attorney-General’s Chambers to pursue murder investigations over the death of Wan Amirah Wan Alias, an assistant manager of a telecommunications company.

The Libyan, who was the driver of a car that crashed into Wan Amirah on Oct 17, was among four people held by police a day after the victim died.

The suspect and his passengers – another Libyan aged 20, a 22-year-old Yemeni and a 32-year-old Sabahan woman – were arrested in Seri Kembangan and Symphony Hills, Cyberjaya.

Police learnt that they are students of a university in Cyberjaya.

The were remanded for four days to be probed for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Except for the driver, the others were freed on bail when the remand order ended.

A recording from a close-circuit security camera showed the suspect driving the vehicle dangerously opposite a row of shops, crashing into parked cars.

Wan Amirah was seen crossing the road before the car hits her, dragging her for several metres, before the car sped off.
