Ehnes in concert at DFP
INTERNATIONALLYRENOWNED violinist James Ehnes ( above) returns to Kuala Lumpur for a concert series at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas (DFP), KLCC.
Ehnes has performed with prominent orchestras in the US, Europe (such as the London Symphony and DSO Berlin) and Asia (such as the Hong Kong Philharmonic and NHK Symphony).
With an extensive discography under his belt, he has won many recording awards including a Gramophone, Grammy and Juno.
Ehnes will be presenting a selection of much-loved works by Beethoven, Ravel and Brahms at a recital tonight at 8.30pm. He will be accompanied by pianist Andrew Armstrong.
This will be followed by two performances with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) tomorrow and Saturday night at 8.30pm.
The programme will include Berg’s Violin Concerto, a work with a combination of tragedy and religious meditation. Nicknamed Memory of an Angel, this work premiered at a music festival in Barcelona in 1936.
The concerts will open with Verdi’s Overture to La Forza del destino – a work that deals with deception, revenge and magnanimity, and close with Sibelius’ Symphony No.2 in D major.
The latter embraces a symphonic world of towering strength and was premiered in Helsinki in 1901.
All concerts will be led by Olivier award-winning British maestro Mark Wigglesworth.
