Govt committed to improving lives of all races
PETALING JAYA: The government remains committed and determined in eradicating poverty and improving the living standards of all races, including Indians, said prime minister-in-waiting Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
In his Deepavali message posted on Facebook, the PKR president-elect also called on all Malaysians to strengthen the spirit of harmony and diversity.
“I urge all my friends to carry this spirit, which has long been our unique character in our beloved country, with a sense of family and togetherness.
“I wish Deepavali Nal Valthukal to all Hindus in Malaysia” he said.
Other politicians also took to Facebook to extend their Deepavali wishes.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said: “Happy Deepavali to all Hindus. May this celebration be celebrated with happiness and prosperity.”
Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, in wishing all Hindus a happy Deepavali, called on those celebrating the festival to do so by connecting with their families, loved ones, friends and neighbours.
“Hopefully it brings joy to all,” he said in his post on Monday.
However, it was Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad’s message that created the most buzz as he posted a video of his Deepavali greeting speaking in fluent Tamil, earning him praises from netizens.
Meanwhile, former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak said in his Deepavali message that he felt aggrieved he could not implement the Malaysian Indian Blueprint, that included a special business fund and additional placements for Indians in educational institutions and public services, which was proposed during his administration.
He said he was confident that if Barisan Nasional was still in power, it would have been successfully implemented and the Indians would not feel left behind.
“However, the Indian community will always remain close to my heart. I pray that you all will always move forward in the development of the nation. Happy Deepavali to all of you” he said on Facebook.
