Attack on Titan manga goes live action

-

POPULAR Japanese manga Attack on Titan ( right) will be adapted into a new live-action film by Warner Bros.

Variety reports that It director Andy Muschietti has been tapped for the film, with the Harry Potter franchise’s David Heyman producing the film alongside Masi Oka and Muschietti’s sister, Barbara Muschietti.

Attack on Titan began as a manga series in 2009, written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, set in a world where humanity lives in cities surrounded by towering walls, serving as their only protection from the man-eating giants known as titans.

The manga has sold 76 milllion copies, making it one of the bestselling manga series, while an anime adaptation has received widespread critical acclaim.

The series has already been adapted into a live-action film in Japan, released in 2015 in two parts, earning a total of US$46 million (RM191.6 million) at the box office.

Muschietti’s It became one of the biggest horror films of all time after its release last year earned US$700 million (RM2.9 billion) worldwide.

The director is currently in production on a sequel to the sleeper hit, titled It: Chapter 2, and starring Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, and Isaiah Mustafa.

The film will be released in cinemas on Sept 6, 2019. – The Independent
