Three-step move to boost economy

-

GEORGE TOWN: The government will adopt a three-pronged approach to improve the country’s economy to give confidence to investors and raise the quality of life for the people.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said the three points are “pro growth” to energise the economy, “pro job” to create employment opportunities and “pro poor” to overcome poverty and rebuild the country.

He said the approach has been used by the DAP administration in Penang successfully since 2008 and would now be used to improve the economy at national level, Bernama reported.

“The three thrusts which essentially focuses on economic, education and health sectors were adopted when formulating Pakatan Harapan’s first budget to improve the country’s economy after Barisan Nasional (BN),” said Lim, who is also DAP secretary-general, when opening the Penang DAP Convention yesterday.

He said the government would give its best to ensure the national economy was on the right track to benefit the people.

“If we do not show a bright economic future to the people, it will be difficult for us. If we can show the economy is better, then we should be able to face the next general election confidently.”

On another matter, the Bagan MP said DAP would fully support the Federal Constitution despite the Opposition stoking racial and extremist sentiments while the government was focusing on serving the people and restoring the country’s economy.

He said to build the nation, all quarters should understand the concept of nationhood and respect for the Constitution.

“In efforts to rebuild the country, we must focus on the people regardless of their background, race or religion. Only then we can represent all Malaysians,” he said.
