SHAH ALAM: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was yesterday officially declared as the president of PKR, a party which was founded from the 1998 reformation movement to fight for justice for him at the time.
Deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Azmin Ali retained the party’s number two post after defeating his challenger, Mohd Rafizi Ramli.
The winners of the four vicepresident posts are Nurul Izzah Anwar, Zuraida Kamaruddin, Dr A. Xavier Jayakumar and Tian Chua.
The announcement was made by PKR Election Committee chairman Datuk Rashid Din at the 13th PKR National Congress at the Ideal Convention Centre yesterday.
Anwar, who was earlier PKR de facto leader, won the PKR president post unopposed for the 2018-2021 term.
The Port Dickson MP took the party’s number one post from Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who had been holding the post since 1999, but did not defend the post.
On Friday, Lembah Jaya assemblyman Haniza Mohd Talha was declared as the PKR Wanita chief while Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi was elected as her deputy. For Keadilan Youth wing, Johor Baru MP Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir won the chief post while Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman Idham was elected as his deputy. On Saturday, delegates in unanimously agreed to appoint Wan Azizah as PKR Advisory Council chairman.
