PETALING JAYA: The man at the centre of the beer promoter storm, Mohamad Edi Mohamad Rias, also known as Edi Rejang ( pix), has issued a public apology for his actions.

Edi yesterday met Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng at the latter’s service centre and also posted the apology in a video on Lim’s Facebook page, saying he would like to meet the promoter and apologise to her in person.

He said he regretted his actions and admitted that he had acted emotionally.

“I would like to openly apologise to her. I went to the non- halal section and I made a mistake and I would like to apologise to all Malaysians. “I would like to apologise to all Indians, Chinese and Malays. Whoever has seen the video ... please forgive me because I have learned my lesson,” he said. “I’m not racist or anti-Chinese. All races have a right in this country,” he added. “I have Chinese friends, my children go to a Chinese school. Maybe my reaction was because I w a s stressed from work and got too emotional.”

It was reported that Edi also lost his job of more than 10 years.

Lim said the company terminated him on Monday after public outcry over the video he posted of himself berating the beer promoter at a hypermarket in Ampang.

An employee at the company whom theSun spoke to via telephone declined to comment on the matter.

Lim said he would arrange a meeting for Edi to apologise to the promoter and would also arrange for a lawyer to accompany Edi when he is called up by police to record his statement.

“He has apologised unreservedly and we will help him,” Lim said. –
