PUTRAJAYA: The Human Resources Ministry is confident the amendments to the Industrial Relations Act (IRA) 1967, to be tabled in the Dewan Negara this week, will get the support of senators.

Despite objections from Malaysian Trades Union Congress, minister M. Kulasegaran said his ministry will go ahead with the tabling of the Industrial Relations (Amendment) Bill 2019 and at the same time respect the views of all parties.

“The government is confident the Bill will be passed, this is why I bring this up. The amendments are for the well-being of workers,” he said.

On another note, Kulasegaran said the ministry’s Meet the Consumers Day programme, is committed to listening, taking action and resolving issues for the people.

He said it is to help the rakyat settle issues, including those which involve other agencies.

On people who had come from as far as Penang and Johor for their problems, Kulasegaran reminded them that the ministry has offices in all states.

To date, a total of 2,200 people attended the programme, which is held every Tuesday from 8am to 10am in Putrajaya where agencies involved will assist those with issues, and discuss them face-to-face.

Close to 800 issues were raised by consumers at the programme concerning labour, foreign workers, Socso contributions, occupational safety and health, trade unions, skills training programmes, and other matters under the jurisdiction of the ministry.
