PETALING JAYA: There’s no stopping the move to online services.

The Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) has joined the list of local authorities that have set up base in cyberspace.

In an announcement on Jan 25, the local authority said residents in the district could now pay their assessment rates and traffic fines online, apart from applying for permits and licences.

This is to save ratepayers the need to queue up at the counter.

Other local authorities in the Klang Valley that have already been providing services online are the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Petaling Jaya City Council, Shah Alam City Council and Subang Jaya Municipal Council.

Apart from making payments and applying for licences, members of the public could lodge complaints, rent public facilities and check on payments to contractors.

Residents of Subang Jaya can even apply for a dog licence from their local council.

theSun found that the move by MPAJ is well-received.

Aiezat Fadzell, 28, who lives in Ukay Heights, Ampang, said he can now dispense with the need to rush to the local council office to make payments.

“This can all be done on my smartphone now,” he said.

Aiezat said he only learned about the introduction of the e-services last week when he dropped in to pay a traffic compound fine.

“Now it’s easy. I just have to go to the portal and register.”

For Subang Jaya resident Azizan Hamid, 27, applying for a business permit as well as paying quit rent and bills are now a breeze.

“My father is a hawker and I help him handle issues such as applying for business licence and paying fees.

“At least I do not have to queue up now.”
