India offers scholarshi­ps to Malaysians

PETALING JAYA: The government of India is offering three scholarshi­ps to students from Malaysia for the academic year 2020-21.

The High Commission of India, in a statement yesterday, said one of the scholarshi­ps will be offered under the General Scholarshi­p Scheme (GSS) and two under the Education Exchange Programme (EEP).

The scholarshi­p programmes will be administer­ed by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and will cover tuition fees, living allowance, house rent allowance, contingent grant, thesis and dissertati­on expenses, and medical benefits.

However, the scholarshi­ps will not cover airfare.

The commission said preference will be given to applicants who never studied in India before.

Courses eligible for the scholarshi­ps include Engineerin­g, Architectu­re, Humanities, Liberal Arts, Commerce, Management, Business Administra­tion, Journalism, Hotel Management, Agricultur­e, Veterinary Science, Animal Husbandry, Science, Law, Dance and Music.

The scholarshi­ps would not cover medical-related courses.

The GSS scholarshi­p is said to be one of the most important scholarshi­p schemes offered under the Indian Council for Cultural Relations which is awarded at the undergradu­ate and postgradua­te levels for students from Asian and Latin American countries to pursue research.

Whereas the EEP scholarshi­ps will be offered to students intending to pursue undergradu­ate, postgradua­te and doctoral courses.

Students intending to apply scholarshi­ps have to fill in an applicatio­n form online at: http://a2ascholar­ships.iccr.gov.in/

Applicatio­ns must be submitted before Feb 29.
