PETALING JAYA: The number of Covid-19 cases stands at 22 in Malaysia, but two Malaysians test positive for the virus in Tokyo, says health minister.

The Health Ministry announced that two more Covid-19 patients have fully recovered and were discharged yesterday.

Health Minister Datuk Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said both the Chinese nationals, a male aged 27, and a 32-year-old female, who were confirmed to be infected with the virus on Feb 14, were discharged yesterday evening.

The cumulative number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Malaysia remains at 22, with five cases still receiving treatment at hospitals (at press time), he said.

“No new Covid-19 cases were reported to the National Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre yesterday,” he said after witnessing the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding yesterday between University Malaya and Johnson Sdn Bhd.

Dzulkefly was at University Malaya yesterday for the launch of “UM Mental Health Initiative” – an initiative by the Community and Sustainability Centre (UMCares) together with the Student Counselling Centre, Student Health Centre, UM Sustainability and Living Labs Secretariat, and the Faculty of Medicine.

Meanwhile, two of the four Malaysian passengers confirmed positive for the virus on Feb 16 who were removed from the Diamond Princess cruise ship, are said to be a married couple aged 71 (husband) and his wife, 66.

“They are currently receiving treatment at Fujita Hospital in Nagoya and are in stable condition.”

Dzulkefly added a third passenger, a 61year-old woman, who tested negative for the virus, has been allowed to return to Malaysia on fulfilling the 14-day quarantine period.

However, the fourth Malaysian, a 45-yearold crew member, is currently being monitored on board by Japanese health authorities, he said.

Dzulkefly also said passengers and crew of the vessel, MV Genting Dream, which arrived from Singapore and is docked at Port Klang, have been found to be virus-free.
