ONE’S path to success begins with a firm foundation. In a world where the job market is increasingly defined by Industrial Revolution 4.0, it is imperative that students are equipped with the appropriate stream of knowledge.

For 30 years, First City University College (formerly known as KBU International College) has offered industryrelevant Foundation, Diploma, Bachelor and Postgraduate programmes through its faculties including the Faculty of Design and Built Environment, Faculty of Business, Hospitality and Communication Studies, and Faculty of Engineering and Computing.

First City UC’s Foundation programmes are also accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), and each faculty has a team of lecturers with years of teaching and industrial experience.

Foundation in Art & Design (FAD)

Students bound for a career in design should consider First City UC’s FAD programme. The oneyear programme (three semesters) offered by the Faculty of Design and Built Environment is adapted from reputable UK Art Programmes.

Students can expect to be exposed to a wide range of Art and Design activities while familiarising themselves with practical studio work, contemporary theory and practice in Art and Design, as well as develop their visual awareness, analytical and critical approach of visual research.

Once students reach the third semester, they will be asked to participate in a final project meant to identify their Bachelor Degree specialisation: Graphic Design, Interior Architecture & Design, Furniture & Product Design, or Fashion Marketing.

Foundation in Business Administration (FBA)

The Faculty of Business, Hospitality & Communication (FBHC) offers the FBA, a oneyear programme which introduces students to the world of business. In the span of three semesters, students will be able to acquire creative, intellectual and critical awareness, enabling them to become better problemsolvers.

During the third semester, students can select their own elective subjects in line with their interest. For a business-related degree, students can opt for modules such as Cost & Management Accounting, Business Statistics and

Organisational Behaviour.

Meanwhile, students who intend to proceed with the BA (Hons) Hospitality and Tourism Management programme can opt for elective modules such as Introduction to Hospitality and Leisure, and Tourism and Its Environment.

On the other hand, FBA graduates, who have a credit in SPM Mathematics, may opt for the Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons) in Business Management, which is offered by the Faculty of Engineering & Computing.

Foundation in Engineering, Science & Technology (FEST) For a career in engineering and computing, students can enrol in the one-year (three semesters) FEST programme offered by the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, which educates on social and ethical implications in the respective fields.

Moreover, FEST equips students with interpersonal and communication skills in a group working environment, which is crucial for their Bachelor Degree assignments involving the laboratory. In order to hone their problem-solving skills, they will be given scenarios that will require critical thinking skills.

Starting from the second semester, students will have the option of choosing the Engineering or Computing pathway.

Those who choose Engineering (leading to Electronic and Mechanical Engineering) will be exposed to subjects such as Mechanics, Applied Physics and Engineering Mathematics, while Computing (Software Engineering, Computer Science Intelligent Systems) offers subjects such as Software Design Techniques, Systems Analysis and Design and Web Design subjects.
