PETALING JAYA: Motorists without a valid reason to make an interstate trip will be denied access to the North South Expressway.

Several checks by theSun showed that vehicles were ordered to turn back by police personnel manning roadblocks in front of toll plazas in Jalan Duta and the Sungai Besi toll plaza.

A police spokesman told theSun that roadblocks have been set up in front of toll plazas entering and exiting Kuala Lumpur.

“Only those with valid reasons to go to another state will be allowed to make the journey.”

He said they will allow those in essential services or those who have an emergency, such as deaths, to attend to it outside the state.

“Otherwise, they will be asked to turn back. This measure is to ensure that people adhere to the movement control order.”

Meanwhile, highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Berhad said all its highways are fully operating.

Corporate, Community and Public Engagement head Syed Mohammed Idid said critical services such as PLUSRonda and the toll free PLUSLine - 1800 88 0000 - are still available 24 hours a day in the event of emergencies.

“However, all filtering, inspection and diversions for routes heading towards the highway are within police authority and jurisdiction.

“As such, PLUS advises the public to contact the PDRM Hotline at 03-2266 3356 for the latest updates on road diversions and inspection throughout this period,” he said.
