City to make move for Aubameyang

-

ARSENAL boss Mikel Arteta is desperate to get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to sign a new deal, but Tony Cascarino believes that’s a sign that Pep Guardiola equally sees the striker as a top target for Manchester City heading into the summer transfer window.

Aubameyang’s future remains up in the air and there is no update from the club, although the Gabon international did tease fans on Instagram this week when he ‘blinked’ to signal he would sign a new contract with the Gunners.

But the longer his contract situation remains unresolved, the more likely clubs are set to circle for a summer bid.

Cascarino believes Guardiola holds a strong interest in signing Aubameyang as more competition for Sergio Aguero.

The former Chelsea striker believes Arteta’s insistence of how important Aubameyang is to Arsenal is a “clue” as to how Guardiola feels about the attacker.

“Gabriel Jesus has been at Manchester City for three-and-a-half years and has never knocked on the door hard enough for Pep Guardiola to think, ‘Right, he’s in the starting line-up for the next 10 games’,” Cascarino told .

“I suspect the manager will aim to bring in another striker this summer, with Aubameyang top of his list if he does not sign a new contract at Arsenal.

“The two Spanish managers like to play the game the same way having spent so much time together at the Etihad Stadium. Aubameyang for Jesus would be a big upgrade.” – Express Newspapers
