AS AN academic passport to places, times, and ways of thinking, higher education provides a sizeable opportunity to follow up on curiosity and chase career dreams. For this year’s Merdeka, Management and Science University (MSU) together with affiliates MSU College and MSU Learning Centre, celebrated education as a path towards a better future for all, with the Malaysia Prihatin theme.

MSU president Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid said, “Ponder on what we can contribute to building the nation’s next generation and unite in our efforts. The essence of independence is always about transforming lives, enriching future; and university is the place to build our future professionals, to transform community and country.”

Sharing the Jalur Gemilang’s spirit of togetherness, celebrating in national costumes colour-coded to the Malaysian flag, were staff members from MSU, MSU’s 10 colleges nationwide, and MSU Learning Centre KL Sentral; resplendent in their red for merah membara, white for putih pekerti, yellow for kuning berdaulat, and blue for biru perpaduan. The annual MSU MyDay event, which was held in conjunction with the country’s 63rd independence day, was broadcast live from the MSU Chancellor Hall at the main campus in Shah Alam Section 13.

Given the coronavirus crisis, the duty to remain open to life’s unexpected, with flexibility and strength in the face of uncertainty, was inherent in the presidential message.

“Cultural competency in our DNA will allow appreciation and understanding of other cultures. Thank you to all who worked hard at keeping us safe – including our own people at MSU in the medical frontline,” said Mohd Shukri.

Amid the current climate and the necessity for social distancing, MSU has remained as one community. Peopled by welcoming diversity, the university was established nearly four decades ago on a quest to inspire generations of knowledge seekers into choosing the path of higher education as the most effective route to human capital development. Messages sent by the MSU Foundation, go out to all outstanding students from all economic backgrounds; that every student has an equal chance at engaging fully in an MSU experience, and scholarships ensure that no one is left behind.
