Malaysians must cherish racial diversity

EVERYBODY must accept the reality that Malaysia is a multiracial country. As a multi-racial country, mutual respect and tolerance is very crucial. Without mutual respect and tolerance, Malaysia will certainly be heading towards destruction.

It is very important for everybody to set aside any differences they might have and work together to ensure the progress of our country.

Malaysians should be grateful that their society is multi–racial.

This multi–racial society enables everybody to know each other, help each other and improve themselves to become better people in order to become a better society and a successful nation.

This matter has also been clearly emphasised in Islam through its Holy Book, Al-Quran, where Allah SWT said: “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted” (Surah Al – Hujurat: 13).

God has created human beings and put human beings into many races so that our life can be more meaningful, cheerful and enjoyable through the spirit of friendship and cooperation we can generate between difference races. Just imagine, what will happen if there is only a single race on this planet; our life will become dull and meaningless.

By having difference races, we are able to know other people’s culture and their religion, thus allowing the exchange of knowledge and ideas.

Every individual as well as race has their own strengths and weaknesses. There is no such thing as a perfect individual or a perfect race.

Everybody needs one another if they want to succeed and if they want to make society progress as well as make our country great.

Instead of arguing with one another, everybody must learn and cooperate with each other so that we can live in peace and enjoy prosperity.

We must learn our lesson from the recent racial tensions in the United State, which sent the nation into deep chaos.

Endless protests and distrust that occurred there make life very difficult for ordinary Americans.

The US is the most powerful and technologically advanced country on earth, yet it is unable to bring unity to its multi–racial society.

Malaysia has been a multi–racial country even before we gained our independence in 1957, and the Malaysian society consists of difference races. This historical fact is undeniable.

With the formation of Malaysia in 1963, the number of races and ethnicities in the country has increased significantly.

As a multi–racial country, conflict and misunderstanding can easily arise if we are not respectful and sensitive towards one another.

As such, it is very important for everybody to practise mutual respect and tolerance towards each other.

We can have many laws, rules and regulations to compel everybody to live in peace, however, it would be much better if everybody can make an effort to create a peaceful society without being forced to do so through any legislation.

“As a multi– racial country, conflict and misunderstanding can easily arise if we are not respectful and sensitive towards one another.
