Sapura Energy names successor to founder/CEO Shahril, who retires in March

PETALING JAYA: Sapura Energy Bhd’s president and group CEO, Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin intends to retire after leading the group for 25 years, upon reaching the retirement age of 60 on March 22, 2021.

With that the group’s board has appointed Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib as its COO and CEO designate effective Oct 1, 2020 as part of a sixmonth transition plan.

Shahril founded Sapura in the mid 90’s as a diving contractor and subsequent­ly expanded into a global integrated oil and gas company.

Its chairman Tan Sri Shamsul Azhar Abbas commented under his leadership, Sapura Energy has grown from a domestic focused player into a renowned global oil and gas company serving the entire upstream value chain.

“Shahril’s legacy will be the group’s highly skilled and technicall­y capable multinatio­nal human capital, strategic world-class assets, sound processes and strong project management capabiliti­es,” he said in a press release.

The group CEO will pass the baton after ensuring Sapura remains agile and resilient during the current difficult operating conditions; sustaining progress from its comprehens­ive transforma­tion plan.

“We are transformi­ng Sapura Energy to remain relevant and competitiv­e in the new energy landscape. Our agile strategy, the right capabiliti­es and entreprene­urial spirit nurtured throughout the years will enable us to embrace the new energy transition,” he commented.

As for CEO designate, Mohd Anuar was appointed to the group’s board as an independen­t and non-executive director in August 2020.
