Don’t drink and drive

-

IF you drink, don’t drive!

This is the simple message of the #Celebrate Responsibly campaign launched by Sin Chew Daily, in partnership with Carlsberg Malaysia, to raise awareness on the importance of not driving after consuming alcohol.

Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong together with Carlsberg Malaysia’s managing director Stefano Clini, Sin Chew Media Corporation’s executive director and Group CEO Eugene Wong and editor-in-chief, Kuik Cheng Kong launched the campaign on Sept 18.

During his speech, Wee spoke about the recent amendment to the Road Transport Act 1987 (Amendment Bill 2020), which imposes a higher penalty for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

“If you want to drive, please don’t drink,” said Wee, urging the public to take e-hailing rides, after drinking. He said drivers should spare a thought for the families of victims.

Kuik said: “To drink and drive is undeniably a deadly mistake, which could cause tragedy and serious consequences. It can be avoided and should be avoided at all costs.”

He added that it was a step in the right direction with Carlsberg Malaysia also sharing the same concern.

The launch was followed by a dialogue session hosted by Sin Chew titled Drink Driving in Malaysia: Moving from shared agenda to shared solution with panelists comprising Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS)’s board member Wong

Shaw Voon and Carlsberg’s corporate affairs director Pearl Lai.

#CELEBRATERESPONSIBLY is Carlsberg Malaysia’s annual responsible drinking campaign.

Clini said: “The campaign has reached more than 76,000 consumers since it began in 2015 with close to 1,800 free and subsidised e-hailing rides redeemed in 2019, alone.”

In conjunction with the sixth year of the #CELEBRATERESPONSIBLY 2020 campaign, Carlsberg is introducing new partners and extending more free rides so consumers need not grab car keys when returning home from Carlsberg outlets.

“From now until Nov 30, the brewer is offering free and discounted e-hailing and chauffeur services from our partners by simply using the promo code CELEBRATERESPONSIBLY,” said Clini.

Consumers stand to benefit from RM10 off per ride from existing partners Grab (5,000 rides) and Riding Pink (700 rides) and 10% with new partners SOCAR+, Lailah and DriveSafe. The promotion is valid only for rides from participating outlets from 7pm to 12pm, daily, until rides last. For a full list of outlets, visit www.carlsbergmalaysia.com.my. – by S. Tamarai Chelvi
